April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball stars to capture medals at many Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian who will be joining the team in Tokyo. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic Gold. As she turns 39, it could be her last chance to take home an Olympic gold. But she's convinced that the top awards are within reach. Ross said on NBC Boston that if they play their best, or play a great game, she believes the team could win a gold medal. Also, it's an issue of luck. Ross was born the 22nd, 1982 in Costa Mesa California. She lived there along with her entire family. Ross's athletic endeavors continued at Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several activities. As a prep-athlete she played indoor volleyball and track. However, she was a standout at this level. As per her biography, during high school she played volleyball as an outside setter (middle blocker) and setter (outside blocker). Thanks to her hard work, she was honored as the 1999 Gatorade International Player of the year in Circle of Champions. Also, in 2000 she was named Orange County Athlete of the Yr for volleyball. Ross and Klineman are doing what they do in 2017. However, Ross was a major player in the world of beach volleyball prior to the pair. She's won big competitions with different players. The other is an iconic player in the world of volleyball. From 2007 to 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Together with Kessy Ross was a force in the world circuit, winning a world title in 2009. The duo would go through to take home a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. They were knocked out of the gold by the legendary duo comprising Misty and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate after Maytreanor's retirement. The pair went on to earn the bronze medal in beach volleyball in the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross began her collegiate career with the USC Trojans after graduation from high school. This was years before Ross made her debut on the sand and turned professional. The time she spent at USC was an impressive one. As a freshman in 2000 she fought her way to Pac-10 and NCAA The Freshman of the Year honors and was also an All-American. She was also one of the key players for helping the Trojans reach their way to the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating defeat in her sophomore year however, she was successful in achieving the All-American award. In her last two seasons as a player, she led the Trojans to the summit of the mountain winning successive national titles. In 2003-2004, Ross was named the best female volleyball player on the collegiate scene in America by the Honda Sports Award. Ross was a major in the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross was never able to watch her daughter's rise to the beach volleyball spotlight. Ross's mom died from breast carcinoma in 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. But she still keeps her parent close to his heart. Margie has been an inspiration throughout her life, as well as on the beach.
