Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarships for his family as well as service to his community. The first is the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on an Eufala farm. In second football, he was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. All three brothers were All-Americans. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the country by Outland and Lombardi Awards. He was awarded two championships as well as 32-1-1 in his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. Third scholarship he was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a bachelor's diploma from the University of California, Berkeley. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week of volunteer time in college. After college, he moved into Tampa and played nine years for the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro for three occasions. He then began his professional career. In 1988, he was an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as one of the 10 of the most notable young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in size and weighed in at 256 pounds when he was a student athlete. He played for the team of 1975. In 1993 he was appointed associate director of the University of South Florida. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
